The AM/DM podcast: Revisiting Mongo’s legacy

In August, Robert Hodges, aka Prince Mongo, died. As his alter ego may suggest, Hodges was known to many Memphians as an eccentric character who claimed to be an alien. He often wore funny clothes but no shoes. He called everyone Spirit and ran nightclubs, clothing stores, and arcades.
Every so often, he ran for mayor.
After his death, tributes poured in, with many people sharing strange stories. Many were positive, but some weren’t.
Joining us today is Jody Callahan, who dug into some of the more troubling stories surrounding Hodges, to talk about the story we ran, how we reported it and why we ran it.
