Judge Larry Potter and Clerk Ed Stanton honored for service to Shelby County

Retired Shelby County Environmental Court Judge Larry Potter and departing General Sessions Court Clerk Ed Stanton Jr. will be honored Friday, Dec. 13, by county Mayor Lee Harris with Shelby County Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The awards presentation, the first for Shelby County, will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the criminal justice auditorium of the Walter L. Bailey Jr. Criminal Justice Center, 201 Poplar Avenue.

The presentation is in conjunction with the county government and general sessions civil court judges’ “Sound of the Seasons” holiday celebration, featuring the Cordova High School Choir.

Potter established the county’s environmental court to address blight and code enforcement complaints and retired in 2018. Stanton was appointed to the clerk’s post in 2011 and was then elected in 2012 and re-elected 2016. He has announced that he will not see another term.
