Coronavirus: 112 new cases bring positivity rate near 3%

The Shelby County Health Department again reported more than 100 new cases Thursday.

It reported 112 new coronavirus cases and four new coronavirus-related deaths on Thursday.

Those 112 cases come from 3,774 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 2.9%.

According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 132,316 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 61,800 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.

And 194,116 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.

In alignment with the Tennessee Department of Health, the Shelby County Health Department added more high risk conditions to phase 1c of vaccinations. They are permanent household members age 16 and older living with pregnant women, people age 16 and older with Down Syndrome and people age 16 and older with progressive neuromuscular diseases such amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis or muscular dystrophy. The Shelby County Health Department reported 112 new coronavirus cases and four new coronavirus-related deaths on Thursday.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 89,167 cases, including 86,528 inactive cases (recoveries), 1,106 active cases and 1,533 deaths.

There were 146 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.

According to the HRTS, TK% of area ICU and TK% of area acute care beds were in use.

About 14% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (48) or suspected of having the coronavirus (1). About 5% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (98) or suspected of having the coronavirus (24).

And 30 area ICU and 277 area acute care beds were available.

Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.

The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.

The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.

As of Wednesday, March 10, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 786,597 cases, including 11,606 deaths, 705 current hospitalizations and 762,464 inactive cases (recoveries).

About 6,923,442 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
