25 contenders pull October election petitions on opening day
Twenty-five contenders pulled qualifying petitions Monday, May 22, to get on the October Memphis ballot. The candidates have until noon July 20 to get at least 25 signatures from voters in the city or a council district in order to run for an office. (Bill Dries/The Daily Memphian)
If the last two city elections are any guide, the opening day total for qualifying petitions will be about a third of those who ultimately file for the 15 city offices by the July 20 deadline.
