This Memphis budget season is all about ‘sacred cows’

In the past two days, Chase Carlisle has repeatedly said the same two words: “sacred cows.”
He’s invoked the holy bovines in a message to his fellow Memphis City Council members: know what you want to hold onto because cuts could be coming this budget season.
The City of Memphis has issues with both its current and upcoming budgets. The city’s fiscal year 2025 ends June 30 with the new fiscal year 2026 starting July 1.
