Melrose High teen named Memphis ‘Youth of the Year’

Sixteen teenagers — one from each of the Memphis-area Boys and Girls Clubs serving high school students — submitted transcripts, resumes and essays, which were judged by the nonprofit’s leadership in the months leading up to Thursday’s competition.

Christopher Wright is a native Memphian with a bachelor’s degree in education and film from Rhodes College and a master’s degree in sports journalism to be received in Summer 2024 from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Christopher specializes in sports, education, film, music, arts and politics, and was raised on furikake, black-eyed peas and cornbread.
