On the eve of a new school year, Memphis-Shelby County Schools students are set to return to classrooms overseen by a temporary superintendent for the third time in the last four years.
MSCS’ current leader Roderick Richmond is a career Memphis education administrator who has long wanted the top job. As interim superintendent, he has helmed the school system for six months.
At this juncture, Richmond is one third of the way through his interim contract, which expires at the end of next school year, in July 2026.
