What expertise will state picks bring to Memphis takeover?

Nine state appointees will have sweeping powers over Memphis-Shelby County Schools through 2030.

The new board can reshape how the district educates Memphis’ 100,000 students, where they go to school, who is in charge of those schools, and how $1.7 billion in local, state and federal funding is spent on education each year.

So who are these new board members? And what expertise will they bring to the Memphis schools takeover?

Here are short biographies of eight of them. One board member has yet to be identified; State House Speaker Cameron Sexton still has to announce his second and final appointment.
