Redistricting hits snag as City Council debate continues
“This is not a resolution to try to catch anybody on drawing a snake, even though I’ve got a lot of funny shapes in my district,” said Council member Michalyn Easter-Thomas, seen here in 2020. “It’s only to give people an option to have a possible impact by being involved and watching us do our job.” (Mark Weber/Daily Memphian file)
The council tabled a move to put an ad hoc working group in place, similar to what the Shelby County Commission already has up and running. The delay came after a discussion about motives, snakes, the city’s method of redistricting and protecting incumbents.
