Political Roundup: What to look for election night, Chairman Whaley and November referendums
The gap between early voting and Election Day is as good a place as any to talk about a few larger trends to be looking for once the vote count begins Thursday, Aug. 1, after the polls close at 7 p.m.
The best weathervane on the ballot is the general election race for Shelby County General Sessions Court clerk for a variety of reasons.
It’s the only countywide race this year and also the only partisan county election in the matchup between Democratic nominee Tami Sawyer and Republican nominee Lisa Arnold.
Neither is the incumbent since Sawyer knocked off incumbent Clerk Joe Brown in the March primaries.
