NAACP claims DeSoto County election districts dilute Black voting power

The NAACP filed a lawsuit in federal court this month claiming DeSoto County’s 2022 redistricting plan splinters Black voting power.
As a result, plaintiffs in the case are asking the court to order the county to redraw election districts that “do not abridge or dilute the ability of Black voters to elect candidates of their choice.”
DeSoto County officials denied the allegations in the lawsuit Tuesday afternoon but declined any further comment since it is pending litigation.
