A suspect in a shooting at an Amazon warehouse in Horn Lake Friday, June 3, was shot by Memphis Police during a traffic stop later in the afternoon.

The suspect, identified as Corey D. Brewer by the Horn Lake Police Department, was pronounced dead on the scene. He allegedly shot a woman, Ebony Crockett, three times in a parking lot outside the facility at 1615 Commerce Parkway and fled. Crockett, 44, was pronounced dead at the facility.

“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the victim and shooter knew one another through employment at Amazon,” Major Nikki Lanphere of HLPD said in a statement on Facebook.

A BOLO for Brewer and his vehicle was provided to surrounding agencies.

About 3 p.m., MPD located the vehicle, a white Honda, that was linked to the suspect. Shortly afterward, multiple cruisers stopped the the vehicle on Whitten Road south of Interstate 40. Police identified Brewer, 45, as the suspect in the Horn Lake shooting investigation.

“During the traffic stop, shots were fired,” MPD wrote.

No officers were injured during the incident.

“We would like to thank Memphis Police Department, Southaven Police Department and the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department for their swift assistance,” Lanphere wrote.

At the request of Dist. Atty. Gen. Amy Weirich, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was contacted and is conducting an investigation.

In its preliminary investigation, TBI determined that officers stepped out of their vehicles and repeatedly instructed Brewer to get out of the car. When Brewer exited the vehicle, he fired a weapon at the officers, who returned fire, Keli McAlister, PIO of TBI, said.

“The TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers first questions of that nature to the respective departments to answer as it sees fit,” McAlister said. “As a reminder, the TBI acts solely as fact finders in its cases, and does not determine whether an action of an officer was justified in these types of matters. That decision rests solely with the District Attorney General requesting TBI’s involvement.”

At around 7:30, McAlister said the section of Whitten Road being investigated would be closed for about an hour, after which TBI will conduct its ongoing investigation at different locations.
