Judge gives DeSoto DA’s office until noon to file paperwork in extradition case

A DeSoto County judge has given the district attorney’s office until noon on Friday, Dec. 6 to provide documentation confirming Shelby County’s refusal to extradite a defendant scheduled for trial in Hernando next week.
This week, County Circuit Court Judge Celeste Wilson ruled that the State of Mississippi failed to file appropriate extradition paperwork to secure Jashawn Jefferson’s return to DeSoto County, where he is scheduled for trial on Monday, Dec. 9 for multiple felony charges.
Jefferson is in custody at the Shelby County Jail regarding a separate incident in Memphis. Wilson ordered the district attorney’s office to file appropriate paperwork last month to ensure the defendant would be present for his DeSoto County case.
