Memphis Light, Gas and Water’s water customers remain under a precautionary boil-water advisory.

Because of that, several agencies are hosting water giveaways Saturday, Jan. 20.

Where to get water

The Memphis City Council is partnering with the City of Memphis, Shelby County government, the Shelby County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, and MLGW for a water giveaway in each of the seven council districts.

Each giveaway is from noon to 2 p.m. or until supplies run out. Residents can receive one case of water per car.

Boil-water advisory details

In its advisory, MLGW said its water customers in Shelby County should use bottled or boiled water for making ice, brushing teeth, drinking, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice.

Water should be boiled for one minute and allowed to cool before using.

Who’s affected by the boil-water advisory

About 20% of Millington residents are affected by the advisory. Arlington and Lakeland residents are also affected.

Bartlett and Collierville are unaffected because they have their own water systems.

Most of Germantown is unaffected, except the Forest Hill and Crestwyn area south of Winchester; Maywoods Cove; and areas off Crestridge west of Germantown Road, like Cotton Plant, Woffington, Tamerlane and Eggerton.

MLGW said crews have been working around the clock to spot and fix leaks throughout its water system.

In an effort to help MLGW restore normal water pressure to all of its customers, people are asked to call 528-4465 to report water leakage from the street and call 544-6549 to report water leakage in homes and vacant buildings.
