County commission considers putting all school board seats up for reelection in 2026

Shelby County Commissioners are about to discuss shaking up the 2026 county elections with a move to put all nine Memphis-Shelby County Schools board seats on the ballot next year and limit school board members to two consecutive terms.
Commissioner Mick Wright has introduced the previously discussed resolution that would cut in half the four-year terms of the five school board members elected in 2024.
Commissioners are scheduled to discuss the proposal at Wednesday, July 23, committee sessions. A vote could come as early as the their July 28 meeting.
