New volunteer registration is open for the 2023 St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend, which will center on the Dec. 2 marathon and require nearly 4,000 volunteers.
“Volunteers are such an important part of helping St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital advance research and treatment for childhood cancer and other life threatening diseases,” said Richard C. Shadyac Jr., president and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Last year’s marathon drew more than 20,000 participants from all 50 states and 75 countries. It raised more than $14 million for the historic children’s hospital while bringing $30 million in revenue to Memphis.
“St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend is the largest single day fundraiser for St. Jude — and an incredible showcase for the city we’re proud to call home,” Shadyac said. “It simply would not be possible without the selfless dedication of thousands who take time out of their own lives to impact the lives of others.”
Returning marathon weekend volunteers were able to register early for their preferred roles and time slots.
New volunteers can register on the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend website for slots from mid-November through race day on Dec. 2.
Volunteers are needed in mid-November for pre-event preparation activities, including assembling snack bags and unpacking medals and gear.
On Thursday, Nov. 30, and Friday, Dec. 1, volunteers are needed at the Health & Fitness Expo to help with participant experience, packet pickup and more.
Race day offers numerous volunteer opportunities, including manning cheer stations along the course, distributing food and drinks to participants at the finish festival in AutoZone Park, and helping the Green Team keep event areas clean.
