Memphis-area firefighters help in Hurricane Helene aftermath

By , Daily Memphian Updated: October 04, 2024 6:24 PM CT | Published: October 04, 2024 1:30 PM CT

The best thing about this deployment of Tennessee Task Force 1 to areas in Florida and North Carolina that were devastated by Hurricane Helene is that the 79-member team hasn’t found anyone.

Not a single soul.

While that may sound disappointing, what it means to TTF1 leader and Memphis Fire Department Division Chief Jason Stuart is that, in the areas they’ve searched, everyone has made it out alive. No bodies. No desperate rescues.

The deployed members, who are stationed in western North Carolina, represent the Memphis Fire Department as well as fire departments in Shelby County, Bartlett, Millington, Collierville, Germantown and Milan.
