Conservation efforts save 700+ acres from logging

A call in late August and a week of brainstorming, outreach and estimations led to the conservation of 768 acres of wetlands across Collierville, Piperton and Rossville.
The “multi-million dollar sale” came together in seven days through a partnership with Ducks Unlimited and the Wolf River Conservancy, said Erik Houston, WRC executive director.
The two conservation nonprofits wanted to protect the critical forested wetlands that support the Memphis Sand Aquifer.
“It was really a whirlwind week of effort; it was a full community effort,” Houston said. “But now, (the wetlands) are protected forever.”
