Ask the Memphian: Who is John Corlew, and why is there a Midtown park named after him?

If Melinda Killen hadn’t been a bit impertinent that day at the long-gone Bombay Bicycle Club, if she hadn’t nudged that red-haired man she had a crush on, a tiny sliver of tranquility in a busy Midtown neighborhood might today be nothing more than another parking lot.
“I saw him at a table with some other attorneys,” Killen remembered. “And so I went up to him and said, ‘When are you going to ask me out?’”
In this week’s installment of Ask the Memphian, we thought we’d tell you all about John Corlew Park, that tiny greenspace at the corner of Florence Street and Linden Avenue.
