The winning selection, which received 42% of the vote, has now been revealed.
“The winning design is a nod to the 1950s-era plate with the stylized outline in the shape of Tennessee,” said Speak Creative CEO and founder, Jacob Savage. “We also included the tri-star which represents the three grand divisions of the state, and the bold, deep blue background mirrors the blue in our state flag. Overall, we love the design and think it’s a celebration of our entire state.”
The new plate still includes “Tennessee,” “Volunteer State” and “TNvacation.com” as required by state law.
Tennessee residents can get their new plates online and in person beginning Jan. 3, 2022 as they complete their new tag renewal.
The previous green hills plate design was adopted in 2006, with minor changes made in 2017.
