Lawmakers kill bill to untangle gun and voting rights restoration
Tennessee killed a bill that could lift its requirement that people with a felony conviction must get their gun rights restored if they want the ability to vote again. The bipartisan bill was sponsored by Rep. Antonio Parkinson, D-Memphis (pictured) and Sen. Paul Bailey, R-Sparta. (George Walker IV/AP Photo file)
Voting rights advocates have argued the elections office’s legal interpretations have been way off-base and a lawsuit over Tennessee’s restoration process has been ongoing for years.
