Tennessee House of Representatives Speaker Cameron Sexton is instructing his staff to review all of a local judge’s criminal cases following a series of controversial bail decisions that has drawn the ire of the General Assembly’s Republican leadership and some members of the community.
Sexton announced the move to review Shelby County General Sessions Criminal Court Judge Bill Anderson’s cases in a Wednesday, Nov. 20, post on X, writing of Anderson, “he stands with violent criminals rather than law enforcement, victims, families and protecting Memphis.”
Sexton told The Daily Memphian in a follow-up phone call that he wouldn’t rule out filing an ouster petition against Anderson.
