Young’s next steps for a Rising Memphis, and a mayoral contender opens HQ

Memphis Mayor Paul Young’s annual State of the City appearances are the next step in his “Memphis Rising” theme.

The centerpieces are appearances Tuesday, Feb. 6, at First Baptist Church Broad and at Memphis Rotary Club.

Memphis Rising is about Young’s priorities at the halfway point in his four-year term — a combination of shifting the timing of strategies and line items in the city budget to make projects move faster.

There is also a pursuit of long-term goals without the customary warnings that long-term approaches take longer and require patience.

Memphis Rising has also become about life after the Memphis Safe Task Force.
