State’s MSCS audit to be made public in March
It is unclear what Memphis-Shelby County Schools has known about the planned reports. Responding to a request for comment Friday afternoon, a district spokesperson told The Daily Memphian, “We are anticipating a draft report in March.” (Patrick Lantrip/The Daily Memphian)
A publicly available, early forensic-audit report of Memphis-Shelby County Schools is expected by the end of March, according to a spokesperson for the Tennessee agency that hired auditors for the high-stakes probe.
But the March report won’t represent all findings initially expected from the audit, which will only be completed in full if lawmakers commit another $1.7 million to the already $6 million effort tasked with scrutinizing the finances of Tennessee’s largest school district.
“The current plan is to have an interim report available in mid to late March. This would be a publicly available report, and it would contain any finalized conclusions established up to that date,” John Dunn, spokesperson for the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury, told The Daily Memphian on Friday, Feb. 13.
