Memphis Safe Task Force Accountability Act heading to state Senate floor

By , Special to The Daily Memphian Published: March 24, 2026 2:29 PM CT

The Memphis Safe Task Force Accountability Act is on its way to the Tennessee Senate floor after receiving a favorable recommendation from the state Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senate Bill 1467, sponsored by state Sen. Brent Taylor, R-Eads, would require the district attorney general in any municipality where Operation Viper or the MSTF is stationed to submit information to certain state officials whenever a β€œserious offense” is committed and:

  • It is dropped or the DA declines to prosecute an arrest made by the MSTF.
  • An MSTF arrest charge is reduced to a less serious crime/punishment.
  • There’s a plea deal in a case stemming from an MSTF arrest.
