Thousands from around the world descend upon Memphis to play bridge

To the uninitiated, the world of contract bridge is an arcane one full of mystery and more than a bit of confusion.
But to fans of the card game celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, it’s a warm and comforting place where everything you need to know is laid out in the cards on the occasionally flimsy table in front of you.
Some 3,000 of those fans — including a man much more famous for his exploits on “Jeopardy” than at the bridge table — are in Memphis for the next few days for the American Contract Bridge League’s spring championship tournament, which continues through March 23 at the Renasant Convention Center Downtown.
