A Memphis organization that identifies nonprofits with high-impact poverty interventions has announced the latest group of organizations that it will “slingshot” with support, resources, awareness and capital.

The organizations work in areas of the city ranging from Frayser to Hickory Hill.

Slingshot Memphis’ new 2020 nonprofit partners are City Year Memphis, Lifeline to Success, The William R. Moore College of Technology, Neighborhood Christian Centers Inc., Su Casa Family Ministries and Soulsville Charter School.

Each year, Slingshot selects nonprofits for its evidence-based impact assessment, which results in new measurement practices and strategic planning.

Slingshot works with organizations for a year before deciding to invest financially. The investments are one-year commitments that can be renewed. Its board and seed funders pay for Slingshot’s operational costs; impact funders provide the money Slingshot allocates to the selected partner organizations.

Last year, the organization reports it raised and invested more than $1.4 million in its partner organizations.

The organization currently has 23 partner organizations in Memphis and Shelby County, which operate in four areas: job/economic security, education, early childhood/youth and stabilization.
