Pine Hill clubhouse named for Black golf pioneers
“In all my life, I’ve tried to help and serve other people,” Charles Hudson said Saturday at the Pine Hill Golf Course. The new clubhouse is named the Cleophus Sr. and Charles Hudson Clubhouse in honor of Hudson and his late father, both pioneers of the Black golf community in Memphis. Cleophus Hudson, who learned the game while working as a caddie at Memphis Country Club, helped integrate Pine Hill. His son Charles founded the Mid-South Junior Golf Association.
