Why would we spend nearly $700 MILLION to upgrade sports facilities in this city when our infrastructure for electricity is falling to pieces, when crime abounds, when streets are so in need of repaving and repairing and the city is in need of cleaning, when there are areas with no groceries or fresh fruits or vegetables close to them, when there are areas of Memphis that are being ignored in order to focus on Downtown, Front Street, the riverfront?
$700 MILLION???
Why aren’t we as citizens allowed to have OUR say in that expenditure? My neighborhood is in desperate need of repaved streets and pot holes being filled, street lights to control the flow of traffic, speed bumps for drivers who tear down our streets because they’re a short-cut. We have pleaded and begged to no avail.
How about giving Memphis solid reasons for wanting to stay in Memphis rather than moving out of the country? Clean up OUR city first. Throwing money at tourism is NOT going to bring people here to stay. Clean up “the house” first and take care of your own before tossing money out left and right for frivolity.
