Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.
You can’t blame Associated Press voters for leaving the Tigers out of the preseason poll. The program has a recent history of underachieving. This is the year to flip that around.
