Calkins: A helluva game, a crushing loss — and why this Memphis heartbreak might be different

Geoff Calkins
Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. He is host of "The Geoff Calkins Show" from 9-11 a.m. M-F on 92.9 FM. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.
If Sunday produced an all-too-familiar feeling for Memphis fans, there is still reason to hope this might turn out better than the other losses.

Those final 1.7 seconds were painful, but the time before that is where the lessons come from. Tramon Mark’s ‘miracle' shot doesn’t undo the fact that Memphis held its own on the road against Houston.
