Calkins: He’s postponing chemo for Memphis football. At long last, the Tigers are back.
Geoff Calkins first wrote about Jackson Hughey (in a 2019 file photo) in 2019 when he postponed chemotherapy so he could attend the Cotton Bowl. Hughey was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2017, and 2½ years later, he is still undergoing chemotherapy. Hughey has endured 50-60 rounds of chemotherapy, roughly 60 radiation treatments, three stem cell transplants and surgery to remove a 13-inch tumor from his abdomen. But he’ll be in Starkville Saturday to watch the Tigers play. (Submitted photo)

How excited is Jackson Hughey for Memphis football? He’s postponing chemotherapy to go to Starkville Saturday. It hasn’t been the easiest offseason for college football fans. But finally, game day is back.
