Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.

If you park your car near the Budget Rent a Car on Poplar Avenue just east of the Poplar viaduct, you can walk to the spot.

Don’t get hit by the cars flying past you. But there’s a sidewalk that runs right along Poplar Avenue out over the bridge.

Head west on that sidewalk. Be careful when Scott Street comes in from the right. Keep walking, maybe 10 more steps or so.
