Shelby County’s juvenile justice system limits our youth, our community

Bill Powell worked in the criminal justice system in Shelby County for 39 years. At the time of his retirement, he served as criminal justice coordinator for Shelby County Government and as settlement agreement coordinator for Shelby County Government and the U.S. Department of Justice.
The high rate of juveniles transferred to adult court in Shelby County is not due to differences in Shelby County youth. It’s due to differences in the operation of our juvenile justice system.
