Walter Soefker, a 2018 graduate of Christian Brothers High School, is a midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy, on track to become a Naval officer by 2023. He's a freshman safety on Navy's football team. The views expressed in this column are those of MIDN 4/c Soefker alone and do not represent the views of the Naval Academy or U.S. Navy.

The U.S. Naval Academy instills every midshipman with a sense of accountability to each other. The Shelby County Schools would benefit if children were encouraged to work together as a goal-oriented team.
