Shelby County desperately needs to have a higher turnout for its 2026 election cycle. The stakes are enormous. And we’ve seen the unfortunate — and embarrassing — results in the past when dismal turnout eventually led to voter remorse.

So, I am all in when Feagins says next year’s elections should produce a high turnout, hopefully the highest in recent memory. Not because I think she should be elected county mayor. In fact, I am highly dubious of her candidacy for a host of reasons that perhaps an active and accessible campaign leading up to the May Democratic Primary will either confirm or debunk.
