As the Memphis Tigers chase a spot in the College Football Playoff, The Daily Memphian will keep track of notable Group of Five teams each week.

Houston High and Southwind High are still ranked 2nd in Class 6A and 5A.

In the University of Mississippi’s win over Middle Tennessee State University, Jaxson Dart completed his first 24 passes to set Southeastern Conference and school records, finishing 25 of 27 for 377 yards.

Coach Ryan Silverfield’s Memphis Tigers football team is doing some good things, but its success seems lost in the distraction of a basketball program in disarray.

In a Q&A with national college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, Hardaway said, “I don’t need the money. I came back to the school to teach young men and to try and help my city out and my school out and it’s like I’ve been under some microscope that’s unbelievable.”

The Memphis Grizzlies star and his father, Tee, were watching from behind the end zone when right guard Jonah Gambill walked over to high-five them after a touchdown. Center Trent Holler celebrated with a Ja Morant chest bump.

Smith suffered what appeared to be a lower-body injury near the end of the first quarter of last week’s 40-0 win against North Alabama.

The 6-foot-1 point guard who played for Memphis last season explained his retirement decision via Instagram.

Scott said Hardaway would absolutely, unequivocally be back “based on every piece of information I have right now, today.” Tomorrow, the information could be different.
