Penny Hardaway announces major changes to Memphis coaching staff

Memphis Tigers coach Penny Hardaway announced Wednesday that four coaches would not return, just two months before the Tigers open their 2024-25 season against Missouri at FedExForum on Nov. 4. 

Memphis athletic director Ed Scott says his biggest concern is sales of single-game tickets. But the Tigers are also projecting more than $750,000 in lost revenue due to the ongoing Liberty Stadium renovation.

“Penny Hardaway has fired Rick Stansbury and three other staffers just weeks before a new season begins. The continuing chaos is not ideal.”

The Grizzlies announced that GG Jackson will be reevaluated in three months, meaning the second-year forward could miss a month or more of the regular season. 

Munford debuts at No. 11 following M&M Bowl victory, while Houston High remains No. 1.

Memphis Tigers athletic director Ed Scott was asked about the coaching staff changes and said, “I have no comment on that.”
