Penny Hardaway took the job at Memphis with the promise that he’d deliver titles. Sunday, The Tigers knocked off No. 1 Houston to win the AAC Tournament. They’re not done for the season. The NCAAs await. But after five years, Hardaway delivered on his promise. And it was glorious.

Memphis will take on No. 1 Houston for the AAC Tournament title Sunday afternoon at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

This kind of night was a rookie rarity. Who was the last Grizzlies rookie to score at least 17 points in a quarter? Dillon Brooks knew the answer: “That was me.”

DeAndre Williams threw down a dunk that summed up the Memphis Tigers play on Saturday. They’re not letting anyone stop them. After routing Tulane, they’ll play Houston Sunday for the AAC Championship.

Rookie David Roddy scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and took over the game in a comeback win for the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night.

Despite offensive woes throughout, the Panthers had chances to make it really interesting late. Instead, they finish as runner-up in their first title game in 95 years.

AAC commissioner Mike Aresco spoke to reporters Saturday about the divide between Power 5 and Group of 5 conferences, conference realignment and Memphis’ place in a new-look AAC.

No. 2 seed Memphis will get another shot at No. 3 seed Tulane in one of Saturday’s AAC Tournament semifinal games after the Tigers were swept in the regular season.

Kendric Davis and DeAndre Williams each scored more than 30 points in leading Memphis over UCF Friday. That’s the first time two Memphis players have scored 30 or more in the same game in over 52 years.

The All-AAC duo combined for 68 points on 24-39 shooting, 14 rebounds and nine assists. Tigers advance in the AAC Tournament to play Tulane in a Saturday semifinal game.
