Former Memphis Tigers football coach Ryan Silverfield posted a statement to the Memphis administration, fan base and players a day after leaving for Arkansas.

With Zach Edey’s return, the Memphis Grizzlies have overcome backcourt injuries to win with power. It’s not quite what head coach Tuomas Iisalo envisioned. 

Ryan Silverfield accepted the head coaching position at Arkansas after six seasons as the Memphis head coach. And a couple of staffers are coming with him.

The Memphis Tigers have arguably the biggest brand in the Group of Six, and they are among the top resourced non-power conference schools in the country. 

The Grizzlies’ second-year center scored a career-high 32 points and celebrated the end of the Thanksgiving weekend by gobbling up 17 rebounds.

“We thank Coach Silverfield for his leadership over the past six seasons and wish him and his family the best in their next chapter ...” Tigers athletic director Ed Scott said.

Losing at home against an in-state rival carries a deflating tone into the offseason for the Vols. Tennessee was flying high after its win over Florida, but failed to maintain the momentum.

The Grizzlies pulled away with a 10-2 run in the fourth quarter with Jaren Jackson Jr. and Zach Edey on the bench. But it was those two players who brought home the win.

The Memphis Tigers had everything in front of them heading into November, but Thursday’s loss to Navy capped a disappointing month. 

Considering they were promised that the standard at Memphis would be maintained when Ryan Silverfield was hired, there are lots of reasons for Tigers fans to be ready to turn the page. Does that mean Memphis will be making a change at head coach?

“I’m disappointed, but there’s nothing I can do about it now (other) than trying to figure out what we can do to go find a way to win our ninth game (in a bowl appearance),” coach Ryan Silverfield said.
