Buckley: Memphis’ bowl game, PGA event battling to maintain lofty status

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl is one of the jewels of the Memphis sports scene. The FedEx St. Jude Championship is another.

Both have risen to lofty levels in their respective worlds —college football bowl games and PGA Tour events, respectively.

With thirst for the sports entertainment dollar increasingly intense nationwide, however, maintaining such status is no easy task.
