Herrington: From G League to playoffs, Tillman ‘stays ready’
“As long as you keep working and keep trusting everything that you’ve been putting in, it will come to fruition,” said Xavier Tillman Sr. (2) after his star turn April 19. “This day was crazy though, I’ll tell you that.” (Brandon Dill/AP)

Chris Herrington has covered the Memphis Grizzlies, in one way or another, since the franchise’s second season in Memphis, while also writing about music, movies, food and civic life. As far as he knows, he’s the only member of the Professional Basketball Writers Association who is also a member of a film critics group and has also voted in national music critic polls for Rolling Stone and the Village Voice (RIP). He and his wife have two kids and, for reasons that sometimes elude him, three dogs.
Xavier Tillman started five games in the G League this season. Barring the unexpected, he will start at least five playoff games this spring. One imagines no one else in the NBA, and certainly no one multiple seasons into his pro career, will be able to make such a claim.
