Drew Hill covers the Memphis Grizzlies and is a top-10 APSE winner. He has worked throughout the South writing about college athletics before landing in Memphis.

As Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey continues to quickly acclimate to his NBA role in Memphis, his skeptics have grown terribly quiet.

Do you remember them?

Of course you do. You may have been one yourself.

Herrington: Jimmy Butler to the Grizzlies? The anatomy of a rumor.

Edey, a two-time college national player of the year at Purdue, was as polarizing of a draft prospect as possible — literally deemed “one of the worst picks in draft history” by one national analyst last June.

Some doubters said Edey’s foot speed was too slow or that he was a benefactor of tight college officiating. Others said the 7-footer’s post-heavy game wasn’t a fit with Memphis at all.

Altogether now: ‘Oops!’
