The Memphis Grizzlies updated the status of injured guard Ty Jerome, who has yet to play a regular-season game with the team since signing as a free agent in July.

Jerome suffered what the Grizzlies labeled a “high-grade” right calf strain on Oct. 17 in a preseason game against the Miami Heat. At the time, the Grizzlies said Jerome would be reevaluated in four weeks.

On Saturday, the team announced Jerome was “progressing well” in his rehabilitation and is now expected to return to play in six to nine weeks.

That would put Jerome’s return somewhere between Jan. 3 and 24.

Jerome has an injury history.

Prior to playing a career-high 70 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, in which Jerome was one of three finalists for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award, he’d never played more than 48 games in an NBA season.

Jerome missed all but two games of the 2023-2024 season due to an ankle injury that required season-ending surgery. He had season-ending groin surgery as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the spring of 2022.

At the moment, all four of the nominal point guards on the Grizzlies depth chart are out due to injury.

Starter Ja Morant suffered a Grade 1 right calf strain Nov. 15 and is set to be reevaluated around the end of the month.

Rookie two-way player Javon Small suffered a turf toe injury on Nov. 8 and is also scheduled to be re-evaluated around the end of the month.

Reserve Scotty Pippen Jr. underwent toe surgery Oct. 21 and is scheduled to be reevaluated in mid-January.

Along with this quartet of lead guards, forward Brandon Clarke is rehabilitating from an arthroscopic knee procedure and is expected to return to play sometime between late December and mid-January.
