Herrington: Nine storylines for Grizzlies training camp and preseason

Chris Herrington has covered the Memphis Grizzlies, in one way or another, since the franchise’s second season in Memphis, while also writing about music, movies, food and civic life. As far as he knows, he’s the only member of the Professional Basketball Writers Association who is also a member of a film critics group and has also voted in national music critic polls for Rolling Stone and the Village Voice (RIP). He now splits his time between Minneapolis-St. Paul, where his wife works, and Memphis.
On Monday, the Memphis Grizzlies will convene for their annual season-opening media session, and this one will be different.
With Ja Morant doing his “media day” in Portland, there’s not a player left from the second-in-the-West Grizzlies squad that got embarrassed in Los Angeles during the 2023 playoffs.
That loss was a hard early nudge in what ended up being a 3½-year slide, which culminated in some rock-bottom tanking this spring.
Now, the Grizzlies will arrive with two feet into an uncertain but at least hopeful future
