How big a favorite should Memphis be in the AAC?

By , Daily Memphian Updated: October 07, 2024 4:59 PM CT | Published: October 06, 2024 4:00 AM CT

When Memphis released the American Athletic Conference portion of its 2024-25 basketball schedule last week, it served as another reminder: Coach Penny Hardaway and the Tigers are well-positioned win this league, both in the regular season and in the conference tournament.

It doesn’t matter the Tigers have an almost entirely new roster yet again composed of 10 new scholarship players. It doesn’t matter the coaching staff also got a makeover when Hardaway fired four members in early September, less than two months from Memphis’ Nov. 4 season opener. It doesn’t matter a dark horse could easily emerge like South Florida did last season.

That’s how much weaker the AAC is this upcoming season compared to past one.
