Memphis basketball forecast: Predictions for the Tigers’ 2024-25 season

All right, let’s try this again, shall we?

Penny Hardaway is giving the same experiment that ultimately failed a season ago — one that involves trying to find success months after overhauling almost an entire roster — another go.

Five questions that will define Tigers’ basketball season

This time, the Memphis Tigers basketball coach brought in 12 new players in the offseason to go with returnees Nicholas Jourdain and Noah Stansbury. Ten of those players are scholarship transfers that will be key parts of the Tigers’ rotation.

But there isn’t much room for error this go around. Memphis, after collapsing in dramatic fashion last season to go from No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25 to missing the NCAA Tournament, needs to return to the Big Dance in order for Hardaway — who enters his seventh season — to show that the program is still moving in the right direction.

An offseason for Hardaway that also included some self-reflection, major staff changes and a retooled leadership approach has all led to this.

The prove-it campaign officially begins with a matchup against Missouri on Monday (7 p.m., ESPN+), Nov. 4, at FedExForum.
