Calkins: Maybe these Memphis Tigers aren’t so bad, after all. Maybe they’re even fun.

Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. He is host of "The Geoff Calkins Show" from 9-11 a.m. M-F on 92.9 FM. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.
With five minutes left in the first half, Dug McDaniel drove into the lane then whipped a pass to Simon Majok.
Majok is an 18-year-old, 7-1 center from Akak, South Sudan.
He arrived in Memphis in August.
Now he was winding up for a straight-away 3-pointer — his first official shot since setting foot in the United States.
He drained it, of course.
