With Malcolm Dandridge sitting out, Memphis’ roller coaster season rides on with a win over FAU.

Only two players — Jayden Hardaway and Malcolm Dandridge — on this year’s Tigers were members of the program for that heartbreaking NCAA Tournament loss last March. That didn’t matter.

Memphis announced Saturday that it would withhold Malcolm Dandridge from all competition until further notice.

Memphis beat Florida Atlantic 78-74 on Sunday afternoon in front of a striped-out FedExForum crowd that seemed just as hungry for revenge as Penny Hardaway and his team.

The University of Memphis is “gathering and reviewing information regarding a potential issue” that could have an impact on Dandridge’s eligibility.

Memphis will have its first chance at revenge when Florida Atlantic visits FedExForum on Sunday for the teams’ first-ever game as conference mates. Last season the Owls knocked the Tigers out of the NCAA Tournament.

“But knowing him, I think he’s gonna play,” Hardaway said of Jones, who tied his lowest scoring output of the season with 10 points against the 49ers.

Veatch was among the top contenders for the job when it was last open in 2021.

“We’ve been taking some losses,” said walk-on Joe Cooper. “So it just felt good to be able to contribute to the win — get the crowd back into it, get the city back into it.”
