Memphis Tigers coach Penny Hardaway and Vanderbilt Jerry Stackhouse both were college All-Americans and NBA stars who now lead major college basketball programs.

The Memphis coach won’t disclose the starting lineup for the season opener at Vanderbilt, but does offer updates on availability of Kendric Davis, Damaria Franklin.

The jersey retirement will take place during a ceremony at FedExForum at a future game to be determined by the program and the late Wright’s family.

The Memphis Tigers get one more test run before the regular season begins next week. At 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, Memphis takes on D-II Lane College in its second exhibition game of the season.

While the Kendric Davis and Alex Lomax partnership appears to have a long way to go before a Nov. 7 season-opener at Vanderbilt, Davis doesn’t have a doubt in his mind they’ll iron out the kinks.

Memphis coach Penny Hardaway cared more about how lackadaisical his group looked for most of an exhibition win Sunday against Christian Brothers than he did the Tigers’ dismal 3-point shooting.

The Tigers shot just 2 of 19 from deep against Christian Brothers Sunday. That’s the bad news. The good news? They have Kendric Davis. And that may be enough.
